Xbox One review!

I had mentioned a few posts ago that I had an Xbox One coming in thanks to my lovely wife, and I’m very happy to say that it has arrived! I don’t review consoles all that often so this may be a bit rusty, but bear with me. To start I have to say that I love the way the console looks, with the colors and designs on the console itself. It does remind me a bit of the PS4, but I love how that console looks so that’s not a bother here. And there is more than just that, obviously, but I’m going to list it all in a bullet point type of fashion and give my final score on the Xbox One at the end. Here we go:

-The controller: I love the controller so much, it’s easily my favorite Xbox controller of all time. That’s not to say the others are just awful in comparison, but this one is clearly above and beyond the others. I love, LOVE, the vibrations under the shoulder buttons, which you feel as you play the different games. That little extra touch is something I really think is cool and adds more that’s new. For as awesome as the PS4 controller is I have to say when it comes to shoulder buttons it’s no comparison, this one is better. The PS4 had the advantage with the VR in the future (referencing the light bar), but outright I have to say I have some strong preferences to this controller. The d-pad, though still not perfect, is better than the 360 one, so I was happy about that. I do wish it had a microphone like the PS4 controller, since I think that’s really cool, but other than that I have to say I love the controller! Overall it’s an awesome controller and the best I’ve seen from Microsoft to date.

-The console’s speed/functions: The Xbox One is similar to the PS4 in that it’s fast. Very fast. Transitioning between any one app or another is lighting fast. Are you playing a video game and want to check your messages really quickly, or even start a download Awesome consoleof another game? Just hit the big Xbox button on the controller and navigate right over there! You can then jump right back into where you were, all in a matter of seconds. Try doing the same thing on the Wii U. That thing is a 94 Chevy Lumina while the Xbox One is a Chevy Camaro. It’s no comparison. I’m used to the faster PS4 so it was really nice to see the Xbox One fit in the same category. You can also share gameplay pics and videos, which is also something I love on the PS4 and am happy to see applied on the Xbox One. Being able to plug in your TV box to the console and being able to not only watch TV but do other things at the same time on the console is just plain cool, and you can even connect the PS4 up to your Xbox One and play the PS4 while using the Xbox One for other features. I believe you can even switch over and focus on Xbox gaming while putting the PS4’s screen in small form, giving you something to focus on. Essentially two people can be playing or doing something on their console all at once on one TV thanks to the Xbox One. That’s awesome.

-Exclusives. Okay, this is sort of cheating since I don’t actually own any exclusives for the Xbox One, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have plans for it, which is a boost to my Xbox One review. I have enjoyed playing the Forza Horizon 2 demo, which is exclusive to Xbox, so maybe that’s enough justification? But the Xbox One has Halo, which I love and can’t wait to play more and more. It also has Forza, which I just mentioned. And Rise of the Tomb Raider, which is at least console exclusive for a timed period, comes later this year and I’m thrilled for that game. My wife is excited about that game as well, so there’s added excitement to having an Xbox One and being able to play that game. Having the ability to have all of the major exclusives all across the big 3 is something I’m really pumped about.

And that’s that! There is more the console can do that I’ve yet to discover, but I’ve seen more than enough to give it a score. It’s a 9.5/10! It’s almost perfect! It’s a great console and I highly recommend it to any of you who have thought about it but haven’t gotten around to it by now. I don’t have any thoughts on the Kinect since I didn’t get one with my purchase, but when I get it I’ll be sure to post a follow up post that goes into that detail. Color me impressed with Microsoft’s latest console! I can’t wait to game on it for years to come!
