Final Fantasy XV is truly the return to greatness that Square Enix used to wield with authority. XV isn’t a perfect game, which one is after all? But it’s a truly solid game that’s very enjoyable. It certainly is a major step up over the XIII series, the last console main game before XV. The game, while missing some key content (which will be added later via DLC), is quite enjoyable to play and offers great replay value. I’ve made it clear in the past that I think that replay value is almost as important as the main value in a game, if not more so. What keeps you coming back can often be as important as what got you there in the first place. I know many gamers are like myself: you want to have plenty to come back to when you’re done with the main game, and Final Fantasy XV certainly doesn’t disappoint in that way.
Whether it’s seeing (and soon taking) custom pictures in your adventures, detailing your car/chocobo, replaying the game and changing some of your conversation choices and seeing the differing dialog, doing side missions, finding the little shinies on the ground and more, the game certainly keeps you busy in the post story world. We’ve known for a while that Square Enix had plans to add more to the game via DLC that’ll expand upon what we already have as far as replay value is concerned and add even more, such as online co-op gameplay. Depending on what’s involved there and how much fun it is then that right there alone is a major addition to replay value for the game, no doubt. But we get something before that comes, before the buddy DLC, before any of it. We get to go to Altissia and enjoy the Moogle Chocobo Carnival!
If you take a look at the video here then you’ll see how cool this thing looks! It looks wonderful! One of the things that has been discovered about XV, something that actually made me a bit upset that Square didn’t use more of it, is the glitches that allowed players to go to locations in Altissia and Niflheim that you can’t get to normally. Generally that’s not the sort of thing that would bother me but I really didn’t like too much how open the game was at first and how much it closed off in Altissia and beyond. Okay so it didn’t break the game to me at all, but seeing how much more you could explore (and I explored more of Altissia myself in the glitch in my game) and knowing you couldn’t in the main game definitely was upsetting to me. Well, at least when it comes to Altissia, we get more location there to explore!
I’m very excited about that. Not only do we get to see the decorations all over, which was cool enough, but we get to see more of it explored as well as new mini games! The Chocobo race in Altissia certainly has to give a strong vote to how much more expansive this place is now, that area at minimum is completely brand new, never before available. The mini games outside of that look fun too, such as the shooting mini game that’s shown in the clip I put in the post here. And alongside the Carnival (coming January 23rd to North America, Europe and Japan get it on the 24th) we get the ability to take our own photos (outside of battle) and that’s just plain cool! More things that you can do that make your journey unique helps a lot with replay value, and the pictures Prompto takes certainly does a good job at making your journey more personal. Now you’ll have far more control over that aspect.
The Carnival will run until February 19 at 4:00pm PT/7:00pm ET for North America, and Europe on February 20 at 1:00am CET and Japan at 9:00am JST, to be specific. It’s a limited event so you want to be sure to log in with your game and go to Altissia and see what it’s all about! I can’t wait; it adds new photo modes, mini games, more areas to explore, and more! It gives you even more incentive to pick up XV and play it, and there is a lot more DLC coming in 2017 so be sure to keep it here and see the latest in the XV world!
