I don’t know about you but when I’m excited about an upcoming film or video game (in particular) I tend to try to do something to put myself more in the mood of the future game/film. For example, when the Dark Knight Rises was set to come out I made sure to watch Batman Begins and the Dark Knight before going in, to have me in a big Batman mood. When the 25th Sonic the Hedgehog Anniversary game has a concrete date later this year I’ll spend time playing Sonic to put myself in the mood for the game and series in general. It’s something I’ve done since I was a little kid and likely I’m far from the only one. So that got me thinking: we have Batman V Superman out now in some areas and set to fully take off this weekend, so if you aren’t seeing it within the next day or so what can you do to keep you in the mood for the film? There are tons of ways but since this blog is about gaming I’ll mostly point out some of the games that can help out overall, but I’ll start off with some of the non gaming options. Let’s get it started!
Well you certainly can’t go wrong with watching any of the incredible DC animated films if you want to be in the mood for the upcoming film, especially when you consider that the new film is the spring to the Justice League in the major film world. There are tons of great Superman and Batman films out there now as it is, with the other Justice League members as well, so that’s a great idea for somebody wanting to put themselves in the mood for the film. Of course there are also a ton of great comic books you can read as well, which is always a great choice when looking at anything based on the comics. None of this includes the various TV shows that are out there right now. Plus you have the past major feature films for each character you can watch as well! I especially recommend you re-watch Man of Steel since this film is the second in the universe that that film set up. But what about the games?
Well purely Superman wise there isn’t much to find sadly, since there hasn’t been a major game featuring the Man of Steel yet. Or at least any one that’s really great. But there are games with him in them that are great for pumping you up for this film and what it represents, especially Injustice: Gods Among Us. This has to be the main game since it has not only Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman (the main trio of the new film) but also has the Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Cyborg, and so many more! All of the main characters in the new film are in that game as well as the heroes that make a cameo appearance in the film are in it too, so this is the perfect game to get you in the mood for the film. I also have to give a quick shout out to the Batman VS Superman game you can download for your smartphone. It’s a rather simple game overall that can’t compare to any of the other major games but for sure it plays well and is enjoyable, even if only in short bursts. So that’s a worthy game since not only is it fun but it’s also the tie-in game, at least the only one I’ve seen so far.
And you can’t try to be any form of a Batman mood with games and not play the Arkham trilogy. Those games are all about the Bat of course but the various other DC heroes do indeed exist within this world and that’s shown in conversations and other ways we well, giving off a great Batman vibe (naturally) as well as a Justice League one in that these other guys do indeed exist within these games, even if they aren’t prominently featured. These games are the top rated comic book games of all time, and little wonder as they are incredible games. Batman has first billing in the new film so you’d be on the right track to put yourself in a major Batman mood for this film. And, without spoilers, let me assure you: the Batman in the film has similarities to the Arkham Batman, though I won’t say why. So this is a great route to getting pumped up! But is that it? Isn’t there more?
Well yes, there are certainly more games you can play for sure to get yourself in the mood for this game, but I think the buck stops with the Arkham series and Injustice. I truly believe those two are the best gaming route you can take to get yourself pumped up for the new film for sure. And the smartphone tie-in obviously is a help as well. DC has some other great games that you could consider as well, and for sure I encourage you to use them. Use any method you can think of to get yourself excited for this film! I just so happen to think these 2 major games are the ones you should look the most into. Either way there is a lot to enjoy in the new Justice League starting film and these games can certainly be a great build point, not only into the film, but for afterwards as well!
